Privacy policies, disclosures & other legal stuff

General Terms

Guess what? I know a lot of lawyers! And I do want to be clear—I'm sharing the best information I can on food safety and food science, but I can't offer guarantees. There's, of course, little that's more personal and impacts our health more than the daily decisions we make about food. Anyway, here's what the lawyers are making me say:

Privacy Policy

Welcome to EatOrToss.com’s privacy policy, which was last updated on January 15, 2017, and could change at any time.  So if privacy policies are your thing, check back here sometime.  You’re in for a real treat and some exciting reading coming up.

EatOrToss.com does not share personal information with third parties or store any information about your visit other than to analyze and optimize your content and reading experience through the use of cookies.

What are cookies?  Cookies are delicious.  “Cookies” also refers to small bits of data which save information when you visit websites. These morsels exist so you don’t have to re-enter the same info every time you return to the website. Here’s an example. Thanks to cookies, search engines are better equipped to record that you prefer your search results in, say, English. They also help merchants keep track of whatever you may have saved in your online shopping cart. Advertisers find cookies particularly delicious because they enable the delivery of ads that are a bit more useful to you. You can control your cookies to some extent using your browser’s privacy settings.

Anyway, third parties, such as advertisers, may be placing and reading cookies on your web browser, or using web beacons to collect information, in the course of ads which appear on EatOrToss.com.

Also, EatOrToss.com is not responsible for republished content from this blog on other blogs or websites without EatOrToss.com’s permission.

Disclosure Policy

Okay, so why is there a disclosure policy on EatOrToss.com? It comes down to the same values that drive our posts about what food you can eat and what you should toss:  we want you to know what’s up so you can make the best possible decisions. So, here’s our disclosure policy.

EatOrToss.com is a blog written and edited primarily by Rachael Jackson and her minions of associate editors and collaborators. This project is a labor of love, but everyone has to eat (see what we did there?), so EatOrToss.com accepts forms of cash advertising, sponsorship, paid insertions or other forms of compensation.

But gosh, the compensation will never influence the content, topics or posts made in this blog.  We get our ideas from you (email ideas to eatortoss@gmail.com), from our own research, and from our own experiences when we wonder — eww, should I eat that?

All advertising is in the form of advertisements generated by a third party ad network. Those advertisements will be identified as paid advertisements as they are in self-contained boxes, offset from the site's main content.

We are not compensated to provide opinion on products, services, websites or various other topics. The views and opinions expressed on this blog are purely our own. If we claim or appear to be experts on a certain topic or product or service area, we will only endorse products or services that we believe, based on our expertise and research, are worthy of such endorsement. Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer or provider. Do not rely on EatOrToss.com for medical, legal, or any sort of professional advice, as EatOrToss.com is for informational, educational, and entertainment purposes only.

EatOrToss.com does not contain any content which might present a conflict of interest. If you think there’s something we should be concerned about, let us know.

For more information, you can read more about the Federal Trade Commission’s Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising, codified at 16 C.F.R. Part 255 in the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, on the FTC’s page on that topic.  These guides are all about openness and fairness so that readers know what they’re getting.  Check them out for yourself!

This disclosure policy was last updated on January 15, 2017, and is subject to change without notice.  For questions about our disclosure policy or if you just have a cool picture of some weird looking vegetable, email eatortoss@gmail.com.
